Who needs Ovaries anyway???

Hello Friends!
You never know what I will write about next. The last time, I was talking about blue tooth etiquette and now, I’ll tell you about my recent surgery to have my ovaries removed. For those of you who have followed my breast cancer chronicles know that I had a bilateral mastectomy last March for stage 2 breast cancer. After developing a meaningful relationship with my Oncologist, we discussed the possibility of removing my ovaries to reduce my hormone levels from my monthly cycle. The other option was to get a shot of Lupron once a month to make the cycle stop, but that would only last about 2 years and then the cycle could come back. In my case, it is best for me not to have a monthly cycle to help reduce my hormone levels.

On June 10th, I went to see my Oncologist and after a brief discussion, I decided to go for the surgery to remove my ovaries. I went for a consultation the following week (on a Wednesday) and had an ultrasound on the same day. As luck would have it, there was an opening on the schedule using the Robot that following Monday. The Friday before, my surgeon called to tell me that she was very concerned about my left ovary and that if it was malignant, I would have to undergo treatment. As you can imagine, I was freaked out, but because of my faith, I was able to keep calm. Fast forward to Monday, the day of the surgery, I was on the table getting my anesthesia and then I was out. I woke up groggy and Julie (my best friend) told me the good news, the growth my surgeon saw on that left ovary, was a benign cyst! I was so excited to hear that news, and then went right back to sleep in my still groggy state.

In my case, it was best for me to have the ovaries removed. What if I decided to go for the Lupron treatment instead and didn’t know that there was a growth on my ovary until some time later? All I know is that God was watching over me. You see, I have two beautiful boys ages 15 and 11 and they are healthy!
So, I don’t need my ovaries. They have served their purpose and have served me well.
