At some point women go through “the change” or menopause.  Well, I’m going through it now.  This experience for me was medically induced with the removal of my ovaries as a preventative measure to reduce my breast cancer recurrence.  I know there are many of you (women) out there who have experienced many a flash in your time.  For those of you who have yet to embark on this journey, let me explain how it works (at least for me any way).

I could be sitting down and having a conversation in a room that is okay as far as room temperature and all of a sudden, I start to get this flash of heat that moves from my head to my torso area and vice versa.  I must immediately get air by either running to the freezer, picking up the nearest piece of paper to fan myself, have one of my kids run to my room and get my personal fan and plug it in right next to me or sometimes, I just suck it up and sit really still until it passes.

As women, we can’t win.  We either have to deal with a wretched monthly menstrual cycle, then when that’s over and we go into menopause, we get these horrid flashes.  I know one thing, my husband knows not to come near me when I’m having one — he doesn’t want to get hurt.  Well, interestingly enough, I don’t mind these hot flashes as long as they are short and under control.  Most people who know me clear out of my way when they see that I’m having a flash.
